Finally! The archive channels function in Microsoft Teams has been rolled out.

Up to now, only an entire team could be archived. Now, individual channels in a team can be archived, too.

Once archived, the channel becomes read-only and will be deleted from the channel list in Teams.
Admins / Teams owners can reinstall any archived channel.

When a channel is no longer active or relevant ( i.e. a project is completed), it can now be closed and archived. The information however is still available if needed.

Therefore existing team governance concepts should be revised and possibly adapted to this new feature – and users trained accordingly.
